How the 911 Addressing system
works..
Each road in the county is setup with an address range.
If a road started at 1 and ended at 100, and your address
was 50, we can tell it’s 1/2 way down the road. This is
basically how the county dispatch system and GPS navigation
systems work. It’s designed to place first responders at
your driveway entrance without having them stop and go at
each mailbox as they try to read the house number. This
saves time in an emergency.
As a result your address is calculated to work with this
system, so we need to know where your driveway meets the
road. Basic information like your parcel number or the
nearest neighbors address. What is your current mailing
address, so we can mail the notification letter to you? If
you have measurement of where the driveway is in
relationship to your lot’s corners or a scanned drawing it
helps us.
If a driveway is shared with 2 or more addressable
structures, it becomes a private road, and we have to
address the homes off this road. We also have to determine
if the roadname is in use and would cause a conflict. If
this is going to happen please submit a few potential names
for the road and check with the neighbors along the road for
their input.
Once you get your new address from us, please post it. It
will help with delivery’s and the builders are the first
people that may need to call 911.
If you fail to post your address, leave an old number
posted, or post a wrong number there is a possability they
may have trouble finding you when you really need help.
